Two time World Superbike champion Max Biaggi has been removed from the intensive care ward in San Camillo Hospital, following successful surgery last week, as his fight for recovery continues following a Supermoto training crash in Italy on Friday 9^th June. The Italian was air lifted to hospital, and it was later announced he has suffered thoracic trauma and multiple rib fractures.

Marking his 46^th birthday, Biaggi took to social media to update his fans on his condition as he has been taken out of the intensive care ward. He tweeted to his 348,000 followers: “After the time I spent in there, the most beautiful gift and get out of intensive care after 17 days. Thank you for all the birthday wishes and for all the affections received every day. Unforgettable. I love you.”

Never losing consciousness, Biaggi was speaking with both doctors and family members and at 17.30 he underwent a scan which excluded spinal cord injuries. Following weeks spent in intensive care and with every effort in place to help the 46 year old with his recovery, Biaggi has now had another operation which had a positive outcome.

The latest statement from the hospital: “Max Biaggi was transferred in thoracic surgery department. He is fine. He will be discharged from hospital in 24-48 hours. He will start rehabilitation/physiotherapy in a private clinic.”
